Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in healthy food. I hope you find inspired food to fuel a clean and healthy kitchen.

Extreme Green Smoothie

Extreme Green Smoothie

I don’t discriminate against any smoothie but green ones are certainly among my favorite. I LOVE getting in the greens first thing. It is an immediate mood booster and typically preludes making better decisions as the day goes on. Bryson is also a huge fan! In fact, I believe a green smoothie was among the very first things he ever ate tried after exclusively drinking breastmilk. This smoothie is perfectly sweet without any added sugar which is a must when introducing kale to littles. Don’t skip the mint, the refreshing flavor is a perfect way to wake up your palette in the morning.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup loose packed kale (or about 2-3 stalks with stems removed)

  • 2-3 romaine lettuce stalks

    • Don’t go overboard here otherwise you risk a bitter smoothie

  • 10 mint leaves

  • 1 ripe pear

  • 1/4 apple

  • 1 ripe and frozen banana

  • 1/4 frozen zucchini

  • 1/2 cup ice

  • 1/2 cup water

To make:

  1. Add all ingredients to your blender starting with the most soft — kale, mint, romaine moving onto apple, pear and then add the frozen fruits/veg to the top.

    • Using this order to build the smoothie will help the blades get moving more easily and the lettuces will blend with the water to make more liquid to help blitz the frozen elements.

  2. Enjoy right away. Store any leftovers in the fridge but know that the bright color will diminish over the next few hours. Still tasty though!
